CMMD Texting

Texting Hours:

Monday to Friday, 7:00am–4:00pm

Never send urgent matters via text; to speak with someone, call the office at (610) 363-0100.

When you're not able to wait on hold or answer a return phone call, text messaging (SMS) can be a convenient approach to scheduling and other non-urgent communications with our front desk. Consider opting in to this way of communicating with us!

First, let's talk security.

We comply with HIPAA, and while our text messaging platform is HIPAA-compliant, text messages aren't fully secure. It is not a confidential method of communication, and there is a risk that messages sent to you may be intercepted and read by a third party. That's why it is important that before texting us, we ask for your written consent to communicate in this way.

I hereby consent to have staff at CMMD and Associates communicate with me by SMS (text) messaging regarding various aspects of my medical care, which may include, but shall not be limited to, test results, prescriptions, appointments, symptoms, screenings, and billing. I understand that standard SMS messaging is not a confidential method of communication and may not be secure, and there is a risk that messages sent to me regarding my medical care might be intercepted and read by a third party.

Text CONSENT to

(484) 729-9528

to give us permission to text with you. We won't be able to discuss specifics about your healthcare needs over text message without this initial step. Thanks!

Will texting be faster than calling?

Text messages are received in a queue on a computer system, similar to an email. You will not receive an instant answer and should not use texting for urgent matters, but during texting hours (Mon-Fri 7am-4pm) we work to respond to texts within 24 hours. Because you will be able to read and reply to texts without calling back, you may find (and we hope!) that this method makes scheduling faster and easier for you! You are always welcome to call the office to speak to someone or leave us a message to receive a return call.

What can I text about?

Texts are great for logistics that you would normally call the front desk to discuss. You can even text these keywords for an automated reply with next steps:

RESCHEDULE APPT

Make changes to an upcoming appointment.

SICK

Tell us you are sick and need an appointment today.

(Note: If experiencing a medical emergency, dial 9-1-1. Text messages should not be used for urgent matters.)

NONURGENT

Schedule a well visit, refill a medication, or have other general questions. You'll receive a text back within 24 hours.

BOOK APPT

Receive a reply within 24 hours with date and time options for an appointment.

BILLPAY

Get the link to pay online, or ask billing questions (please never send credit card numbers or bank numbers via text)

Or, simply text us what you need and we'll place you in our queue for a reply. Texts will receive a reply within 24 hours. You may reply STOP to opt out at any time.

Am I texting with a human or a robot?

Some initial replies are automated to expedite service and get necessary details from you, but our real, live front desk team picks up the conversation from there and will respond to your message within 24 hours during our texting hours (Mon-Fri, 7am-4pm). As appropriate, the team member assisting you will have your electronic medical chart in front of them and will be able to view all necessary information to assist you.

Is this just like the MyPennMedicine portal?

No; the portal is a fully encrypted, state-of-the-art way to communicate directly with your provider and keep track of your medical records and results. Text messages, on the other hand, go to our front desk team, and are best used for logistics like scheduling or canceling appointments.
